Introduction

Longhirst is a village in Northumberland approximately 3 miles North East of the market town of Morpeth. The village itself is in a conservation area but the parish itself is quite widespread. Comprising outlying farms and the now defunct Longhirst Colliery.  Originally the village was built to house the workers and tenants Longhirst Hall, which is now in the process of being redeveloped to provide housing. There is a very active village hall which provides a variety of entertainments and is available to hire.  An hourly bus service runs through the village providing easy access to Newcastle and/or Alnwick.  The nearby village of Pegswood has a number of shops which are easily accessible from the village.
